Casas María Matilda

In May of 2024, my wife and I took a trip down to Puerto Escondido, Mexico. We both share a love for architecture, and she found a small community built around the idea of how land and homes can live in balance with one another.

Casas María Matilda was designed with spaces that shift throughout the day. Handmade wooden sliding walls allow each room to open, close, and change depending on light, movement, and how the home is being lived in.

Both units are divided like a yin and yang figure. One half of the house acts as a gallery in constant relationship with sound, light, plants, and the surrounding landscape. The other half creates a more private interior that can open directly to the outside path.

The photography focused on the relationship between structure and nature, capturing the textures, natural light, and quiet transitions that make the homes feel connected to the land around them.
